Cigarette Daydreams Video

I personally love this music video and especially the montage editing which has a clear narrative. The video has mainly a monochrome colour palette but does switch to colour in some parts of the video which works quite well and is quite quirky. This inspires us as we wanted to achieve something similar with there being two of the same people which represents the two sides of her or even her old self.

Song Permission- Finding the producer

In today's lesson my group and I searched for the producer of 'Empty Gold'. We found through Vevo that it was Jim Eliot who produced the track. We then used Google to search for him and we came across his page on his managements website. So once we then found the managements email address we then sent him an email which is below. As we are using the track for educational purposes there shouldn't be any copy right issues.

Treatment Pitch Vlog

This is the audience feedback that we recieved from our class for our treatment pitch. Our pitch helped us to generate ideas and elements for our video however we have yet to come up with an order which we will hopefully be able to come up with when carrying out more research and creating a story board.

Song Choice

In today's lesson my group and I finally decided on a song and it is 'Empty Gold' by a popular indie artist Halsey. We started off going over and annotating lyrics to about 4/5 different songs. We narrowed it down to 'Beggin for thread- Banks' and 'Empty Gold-Halsey'. Empty Gold won due to the  great beat and we found that we managed to draw more details out of Empty Gold. In addition we also asked the opinion of our fellow media students by showing them both the lyrics and the song. They all seemed to agree that Empty Gold was the better choice.

Rihanna's Ad for Puma

Whilst on YouTube I came across Rihanna's advert for Puma. I loved the black and grey colour scheme and especially the way the images appeared on her body! This is something that I would love to do in my indie music video.

Choosing a song

For the past week or so my group and I have been searching for a song for our music video. We decided we wanted to find an artist from the 'Indie' genre as we love the conventions of a typical indie music video and we believe we could draw a lot of details and intriguing themes from a indie song. I have made a playlist on Spotify of all the songs that I have found that I like and what we could possibly use as the music for our video. As you can tell from the playlist my favourite artists that I have found from my research have been Halsey, Banks and Broods.

Goddess- Banks

I personally loved this song and thought it would be a great contender when choosing our song for out video.  We felt that this song had a element of feminism and empowerment from the term 'goddess'. However there was a lot of explicit language in the song and we couldn't find a clean version. After reading the article on the guardian online my group and I decided to rule this song out as we would like the song and video to be heard and seen by all ages if they wished.

Age Rating on Music Videos

After reading an article published by the Guardian online, it has brought to my attention the amount of explicit content that children are exposed to whether it be sexual, verbal or the glorification of drug use. This highly inappropriate content that children have easy access to on a daily basis through youtube, vevo and even on tv. As sociologist Sue Palmer said that access to content like this intoxicates childhood which leads to the disappearance of childhood innocence. Themes such as drug use, sexual content and violence are glamorised and are all common in todays contemporary society.

When it comes to planning and filming our music video I would like to try and avoid overly sexual and violent scenes to enable our video to be open for all audiences to enjoy if they wish.

This video would be an example of a rating of age 18 as it  glorifies drug use, violence and overly sexualises women:

Florence and the Machine

FKA twigs

FKA Twigs is a British electronic indie artist signed to 'Young Turks'. Her music, videos and image can been described as strange and quite queer. Her videos I find quite fascinating, she tend to stick to a monotone colour palette which creates a dark and eery feel to her video. She usually has one specific setting where something quite simplistic is turned into something very interesting. The videos conforms to Andrew Goodwins theory because a star image can be recognised throughout, with 'video girl' in particular being very performance based.
